Position Overview

Ultimate Staffing Services is actively seeking an experienced Scrap Metal Buyer to join a dynamic recycling operation in California. This role involves purchasing non-ferrous scrap materials, assisting customers, evaluating materials, and supporting daily yard operations. The position is a supervisory role with a focus on ensuring smooth and efficient operations within the yard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Purchase non-ferrous scrap materials including aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, and other recyclable metals.
  • Work directly with customers, suppliers, contractors, truck drivers, and peddlers.
  • Evaluate incoming materials and assist with material grading and pricing.
  • Communicate with yard personnel to ensure proper receiving, sorting, and processing of materials.
  • Identify off-grade, contaminated, or questionable materials and escalate concerns when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate transaction records and purchase documentation.
  • Monitor inventory levels and support responsible purchasing practices.
  • Provide excellent customer service while ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with a wide range of customers and suppliers.
  • Comfortable negotiating pricing and making practical business decisions.
  • Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Basic computer and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Preferred

  • Experience in scrap metal recycling, salvage, construction, demolition, manufacturing, or industrial operations.
  • Knowledge of non-ferrous metals and material grading.
  • Scale house or material receiving experience.
  • Inventory, purchasing, or commodity buying experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

Required Work Hours
